Great place to see and/or swim in the Great Salt Lake. There wasn't a whole lot to do there, and the waterfront was too far from the parking lot in the bay--easily the better part of a mile through rocky sand. Maybe wear closed toed shoes before you actually reach the water. It was neat to see some bison there. The hike was scenic but very rocky, with few trail markers of any kind. We waded in the water and skipped rocks, most of which were very flat and easy to skip. You're naturally more buoyant in the exceptionally salty water, a neat thing to experience. It was fun to finally see the lake up close after 10+ years living in Utah, but I don't know that I'd vacation there or anything. Not my first choice for swimming. After being in the water and drying off, it felt like my skin had a layer of salt on it; dry, chalky, something I was eager to wash off. Luckily, there are showers near the restaurant (open seasonally), but the water was so cold I just rinsed off my feet and showered when I got home. Not a bad experience overall considering we only had to drive 20 minutes or so to get there.
The view from Frary Peak is amazing! Mind the gusts up there. The trail continues beyond the tower, but you definitely want to be prepared for how rugged it becomes at this point. And leave a note in the mailbox ;)
It's a beautiful scenic drive, with views of herds of bisons and antelopes, you can visit the historic Gar ranch , get a chance to meet real life vow boys, view the annual herd counting and so much more. I feel fall is an ideal time to visit the place. You can also walk by the great salt lake shore , there is beach , amenities include fast food, rest rooms, picnic benches, showers and assisted parking . Great place for the whole family!
Really cool experience. We love Antelope Island! It's a fun experience to check out the brine shrimp in the lake, all the birds, and the buffalo are cool. East side of the island is swarming with mosquitoes at dusk though... Watch out!
This place is lovely, came in late October. Weather was great. The colours were also amazing. I only managed about 4 hours but a full day would have been better. The sunset from Ladyfinger point was amazing. Mosquito got me a couple times but I was not wearing any repellant. I wish my kids could have been with me because they would have had a great time.
